PickedDi by Ranasp
PickedDi
This one turned out super sparkly! This was a small base bead of opaque purple that I embedded chunks of dichroic glass into, melted them in, then used the pick to scrape through them. The dark purple areas are actually the base bead hiding under the clear glass of the dichroic , gives the whole thing a bunch of layers. It's not perfectly shaped but it's pretty close, and I'm pretty happy to have gotten this one out.

Spinner by Ranasp
Spinner
This one was a base of clear green with opaque olive and grey lines added top to bottom, then I used the pick to feather them. Turns out this bead is awesome at spinning, it acts like a top.

SurpriseOrange by Ranasp
SurpriseOrange
Base of clear green, and...I don't know what the hell happened here, because I didn't add any orange that I can remember. No wait, maybe I did add a super tiny dot on top of other dots. Eh, this one didn't turn out how I thought it would, but was fun to muck around with.

ClearTest by Ranasp
ClearTest
This one was definitely a "Well shit, may as well go ahead and see what happens." I had accidentally sooted up my mandrel so the clay coat was completely black (turns out my oxygen was off) so as an experiment I blobbed on some clear, then added bubbles because why not? It's not very straight, but it IS very shiny, and it turns out the soot had no adverse effects that I can see.  Oddly enough, the reflection is a bit more true to how it looks in real life, it's incredibly clear with the bubbles suspended in it.

Chambered by Ranasp
Chambered
This one hit a distinct stage of "fuck it, since that's not even close to what I wanted to do I'm adding bubbles!" Actually ended up looking pretty neat, has a lot of depth from the solid green and grey poking through a layer of clear, and then getting encased in more clear.

Yes I know, I'm a neglectful DA'er.  Don't worry, other things have been neglected, not just you, DA.  Like my poor garden.  Even roped a friend into helping me, and we both ended up neglecting my garden together.  I did manage to score a metric fuckton of sugar snap peas out of it before the weeds, deer, and rabbits took over though.  Also got a bunch of lemon cucumbers, for some reason those suckers went apeshit.  Sadly my tomatoes were a bust, they really didn't like the mix of clay and woodchips that the plot consisted of.  Enough of that sorry bullshit though, because there's a reason for the neglect, and it's because I took over the framing business from my boss.  So now I'm the boss.  I'm not quite sure how I got into this position, but like all evil overlords, I'm not willingly letting it go, which means spending lots of time bossing the minions around.  Since I have no minions, I boss myself around.  It's a hard job, but someone's gotta do it.

In related news, I got the store's basement and all its contents.  One of those contents was a Ben Pearson recurve Palomino bow from the 60's, of all things.  As it turns out, I know three separate chicks who have their own bows, so we've been spending time terrorizing my chickens by popping balloons next to their pen. (well, terrorizing everyone but Caramel.  She gives no fucks, and will sometimes stand near the fence to critique our shooting).  Out of necessity I made my own leather arm guard and finger tab, which I'll be posting because hey, at least it's something.

Hey, which vegetable do they get the leather from?

Not technically a vegetable, except in the concept of "vegetable matter", it's mostly oak tannins.

Thanks for the great tutorial on mask making! can you use faux leather? I work with some interior designers and I can get my hands on some faux leather samples. but real leather, I am not sure about. I do art on a budget, as in cheap as I can... free is better lol

Faux leather has the same properties as the other types of leather that's used for upholstery and so forth. Vegetable tanned leather is the only kind that will hold its shape after being wetted and dried, so sorry to say, nope the faux leather is a no go.

Thanks for the great tutorial on making leather masks! It was very informative. I have been making leather bracelets and other things for quite sometime but never really knew how to mold the leather and such. I want to make a long nosed style mask and was wondering if you had any pointers on how to shape the nose piece as it would be difficult to mold the features on your face as well as molding the nose at the same time.

Thanks! And again wonderful tutorial!

I'd look for something triangular and wedge shaped to use as a mold, if nothing else you could stack cardboard together, glue it, and cut it into the shape you want. The leather shouldn't be soaking wet when you're forming it, so the cardboard should last a few goes at least.
